How do I get rid of MobileMe...........it has appeared in the Control Panel from somewhere?

Manually remove all references to MobileMe Preferences from the Control Panel


If you have an iPod touch or an iPhone and do not wish to remove the support for these devices, then this is the route that you will want to take to remove the MobileMe Preferences icon from your Control Panel as it will leave the device drivers and other services required intact for these devices to work correctly.





First of all, you will need to create a Windows Registry file with the instructions for removing the unique class IDs (or “CLSID”) from the registry. To do this, simply open Notepad (located at Start %26gt; Accessories %26gt; Notepad) and paste the following text:





Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00





[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F6A79154-32…


[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsof… this file to your desktop by clicking on File and then click Save As, choosing the Desktop as the location, and then use “Remove MobileMe.reg” as the file name. Once you’ve done that, click on Save to commit the file to your hard disk.





Now you will need to merge the file to the registry to remove the references to MobileMe.





Windows XP:





Double click on the “Remove MobileMe.reg” file that you saved in the steps above.


If a dialog appears asking if you want to open the file, click on Open.


You will then be prompted by the Windows Registry Editor to merge the changes to the registry, click on Yes.


You should then see a dialog stating that “Remove MobileMe.reg” was merged successfully, go ahead and click on OK.


Windows Vista:





Double click on the “Remove MobileMe.reg” file that you saved in the steps above.


If you are prompted by User Account Control, provide consent by clicking “Continue” or provide the appropriate credentials.


You will then be prompted by the Windows Registry Editor to merge the changes to the registry, click on Yes.


You should then see a dialog stating that “Remove MobileMe.reg” was merged successfully, go ahead and click on OK.


Once you have completed the instructions above (whichever is applicable for the version of Windows that you are using), you can open the Control Panel by going to Start %26gt; Control Panel and look for MobileMe Preferences, it should no longer exist in the control panel.





Side note: The files for the MobileMe Preferences application are still on your hard drive. If you would like to remove them as well:





Using Windows Explorer, navigate to X:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin (where X is the letter of the hard drive that contains your Windows installation).


Delete AppleSyncPref.exe and AppleSyncPref.resources.


Please note that when you reinstall or upgrade iTunes, it will also reinstall the MobileMe Preferences icon in your Control Panel, so you must follow these instructions each time you update iTunes in order to keep it out of the Control Panel; the easiest way to do this is by following Method Two above to keep a simple file on your hard disk to do the dirty work for you.|||Go to Start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; Add/Remove Programmes %26gt; Try to find it and remove it.





If you cant find it, then restore your system to the day when you didnt see it. Remember that while doing system restore you may loose some of your latest data,
