Question about the "Find My iPhone" thing with MobileMe?

What if you lose your iPhone/iPod touch and the battery dies. Can you still locate it on your computer? Or will it need to be on with a WiFi connection or what?|||If the phone is off your screwed! If the phone is on you can locate it no matter wifi or 3G
