Can you only use Apple Mac mail if you have a mobileme account?

I have an apple account but I haven't got a mobileme account and it won't let me sign on to apple mail with my apple password. It's really confusing. Is mobileme separate or something?|||What do you mean "An Apple account"? If you just mean your account number from when you bought your Mac, that's nothing whatsoever to do with having an email account. If you want a Mobileme account, you'll need to sign up and pay for that separately, although Apple Mail will work with any account - use the one you probably got with your Broadband connection.|||Nope. It works with all major email sites. (Yahoo, Gmail, etc.)
